Cartha Queens Park 7 – 68 Birkmyre

Venue: Cartha Queens Park RFC
Date: Saturday, 2nd August 2025
Kick-off: 2:00pm
Pre-season Friendly

Birkmyre enjoyed a solid win in their first of three pre-season friendlies on Saturday.

Making the short journey to the south side of Glasgow to play Cartha Queens Park, they scored ten tries along the way, taking the victory by 68 points to 7.

On a warm afternoon, it did not take the visitors long to open their account. Capitalising on a defensive error, Adam Hannah bounded down the line for his first of three scores. David Cruickshank slotted home the conversion impressively from the touchline to make it 7–0.

The match then remained very even for the next twenty minutes or so. Neither side was dominating, and the match was competitive, but no side was able to make it across the whitewash. However, 25 minutes in, full back Ross Moglia broke a couple of tackles with a powerful run for another score in the corner, which was converted. Two further scores followed, with Mackenzie Holmes—making his senior debut—touching down in the 30th minute, and Hannah grabbing his second shortly before half-time, giving Birkmyre a comfortable 28–0 lead.

The Kilmacolm side extended their lead in the 52nd minute. Blair Robertson showed his power, fending off three defenders before heading under the posts for his score. Alex MacKay then scored his first of the season, finishing off a well-worked phase of play with a full-length dive into the corner.

Cartha got one back in the 64th minute, but any thoughts of a comeback were short-lived when Hannah rounded off his hat-trick barely two minutes later. Birkmyre finished in style in the final ten minutes with three further converted tries. Holmes crossed first for his second, before Lewis Higgins and then Lucas Reid touched down—just on the stroke of full-time.

Birkmyre now head to Tillicoultry this Saturday, where they take on Hillfoots from Caledonia League 1.
