New figures have revealed that 7,356 families with a child in hospital in the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area benefitted from the Scottish Government’s Young Patients Family Fund last year.
The scheme ensures that parents and carers of under-18s receiving hospital care can cover the cost of travel and food – with a total of £1,625,357 issued to families in the area last year.
MSP Tom Arthur has welcomed the figures, stating they show the Scottish Government’s commitment to supporting families in their time of need.
Tom Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, said: “It is great news that the Young Patients Family Fund has supported 7,356 families in the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area over the last year.
“This funding helps parents visit their children in hospital – supporting families in their time of need.
“Alongside the Baby Box, 1,140 hours of free childcare, and scrapping the two-child cap, schemes like the Young Patients Family Fund help to ensure Scotland is the best place in the UK to raise a family.”
