Popular Paisley business Scott McGinlay Catering has announced the sudden closure of its town centre shop after more than five years serving customers from its Causeyside Street base.

The catering company, which has operated at 47 Causeyside Street since 2019, revealed it was given no prior warning that the property had been listed for auction. The unit was advertised as an “investment opportunity” with Scott McGinlay Catering highlighted as a tenant, but the firm says they were not offered the chance to buy the premises themselves.

Owner Scott McGinlay said the business was told it would need to pay £80,000 within seven days if it wanted to stop the sale — something he described as an impossible demand for a small business.

The new owner, who has the right to take on the premises for their own business use, has asked the company to vacate with immediate effect.

The closure comes just weeks after the business invested thousands of pounds into renovating the shop in August, believing a new lease agreement would soon be put in place following the end of their five-year tenancy.

Despite the setback, the catering firm will continue to operate from its industrial unit at Moss Edge Industrial Estate in Linwood, and face-to-face appointments with Scott will now take place at Paisley Pie Co on Causeyside Street.

In a message to customers, the business said: “We are devastated to leave a space that helped get our name out and make us who we are today, but it’s onwards and upwards for the team.

“We cannot thank you enough for the love, loyalty and support you have shown us through thick and thin.”

Scott McGinlay Catering added that they wished the new owner well in their venture and hope they receive the same warm support from the local community.
