A new £14 million affordable housing development is set to transform a site in the heart of Braehead, bringing 56 modern homes to Renfrewshire.
Work is expected to begin at Row Avenue in March 2026, delivering a mix of two and three-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments. The project aims to help address Scotland’s ongoing housing shortage.
To date, £2 million of Scottish Government funding has been secured to support the development, which is designed to suit a wide range of residents — including families, couples, single occupants, older tenants, and key workers. The site lies just over a mile from the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
All homes will feature energy-efficient designs and a net zero heating system, helping to keep fuel bills low and reduce carbon emissions.
Planning permission for the scheme was granted in May 2021, with Sanctuary Scotland purchasing the site in 2022. The 4.5-acre area has since been prepared for construction, with the build scheduled to start once final tender approvals are received from the Scottish Government. Completion is expected by autumn 2027.
Peter Martin, Sanctuary Group Managing Director of Asset Strategy and Development, said:
“This is a really exciting project for us. With the Scottish Government having declared a national housing emergency, we’re now ready to deliver 56 new homes to suit people with varying needs and circumstances. The development of this site will support Renfrewshire Council in helping alleviate its growing housing waiting list.
“Sanctuary Scotland’s construction team will oversee the entire project from start to finish, employing local sub-contractors to support the build. The knock-on effect of supporting the local construction industry is a real bonus. We can’t wait to get started in the spring.”
The Scottish Government declared a national housing emergency last year and recently pledged to invest up to £4.9 billion in affordable housing across Scotland over the next four years as part of its Housing Emergency Action Plan.
Sanctuary Scotland is part of Sanctuary, one of the UK’s largest social housing and care providers. The organisation owns and manages more than 125,000 homes and employs around 14,000 people across the country.
