Major roadworks will begin tomorrow, Monday 3rd November 2025, as work starts on the first phase of Renfrewshire Council’s £58.1million AMIDS South transport project.

The works, being delivered by the council in partnership with Farrans Construction, will see a new junction created at the site of the former Chivas building on Renfrew Road. The junction will form part of a new route linking to a road bridge over the White Cart and improved walking and cycling connections between Paisley town centre, Gallowhill, Inchinnan Road and the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS).

From Monday, the outside northbound lane between the West College Scotland car park and the roundabout at the former Chivas building – the future site of the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus – will be closed. This marks the start of a 25-week first phase within a 52-week programme of works along Renfrew Road.

Future phases of the project, due to continue into early 2026, will see work switch to the opposite side of the road, with the overall scheme expected to be completed by spring 2028.

The AMIDS South project aims to improve connections between Paisley, Gallowhill, Glasgow Airport and the AMIDS site, opening up new travel options for commuters, students and residents. It will also promote walking and cycling, reducing journey times and carbon emissions while encouraging investment in the local area.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow all signage in place while works are ongoing. Pedestrians and cyclists may also experience temporary diversions during construction.
