A teenager is to stand trial accused of trying to kill a man in a car attack.

Leo Downes, 19, is said to have driven at the alleged victim and hit him in Thorn Brae, Johnstone, on June 8th 2024.

The attempted murder charge states this was to the man’s severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment, and to the danger of his life.

Prosecutors allege Downes, from Renfrew, was on bail at the time.

Lawyers for the teenager pled not guilty to the charge at a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

A trial was set and is expected to begin in November 2026.

Reports at the time stated that a 34-year-old man had been left badly hurt after being struck by a silver Volkswagen Polo in the early hours of that morning.
