Councillor Kenny MacLaren has welcomed the impact of income advice support provided to Renfrewshire Council tenants, after figures showed more than £9.1 million has been secured so far this financial year.
Speaking after a report to the Communities and Housing Policy Board on Tuesday, 13th January, Cllr MacLaren said the council’s Income Advice service had supported 4,110 tenants, bringing in £9,174,657 up to November 2025.
The update, contained in the Service Update Report, also highlighted that tenants who receive advice are given ongoing support, rather than needing to repeatedly reapply for help.
Cllr MacLaren said: “The Income Advice team deserve credit for the work that they are doing, providing ongoing support to tenants and ensuring that they are receiving all the benefits to which they are entitled.
“If any council tenant is having financial problems I would encourage them to contact the housing department to see what help may be available.”
Renfrewshire Council says the service plays a key role in helping tenants maximise income, manage financial pressures and sustain tenancies during ongoing cost-of-living challenges.
