Police in Paisley are urging people to stay alert after a 74-year-old man was targeted in a fraud attempt in Ralston.

The incident happened on Friday, 13th February 2026.

Around 4pm, the man received calls from someone claiming to be from the financial authority. The caller said there was suspicious activity on his account and asked for his bank card details. The man provided the information.

Around 7pm, a man claiming to be a police officer went to his home and asked for his bank cards. The householder refused to hand them over and the suspect left.

No money was taken from the man’s accounts.

Chief Inspector Ryan McMurdo said: “Banks or police officers will never ask people for bank details or to withdraw cash. No legitimate organisation will send someone to collect this.

“These offenders deliberately target older and vulnerable people. They use fear, urgency and authority to manipulate victims. If someone phones and asks you to withdraw money or give bank details to a courier, hang up immediately. It is a scam.

“I would also ask everyone to ensure any elderly or vulnerable relatives or friends are made aware of the circumstances of this scam. It could prevent them falling victim to such fraud.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
