Pupils and staff at a Paisley primary school are celebrating after inspectors praised the learning environment and standards at the school.
St James’ Primary School received two Good ratings from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in Scotland. The grades were awarded for learning, teaching and assessment and for raising attainment and achievement.
Inspectors said the school leadership team and staff have created a nurturing, supportive and inclusive environment where children can learn.
The report highlighted that pupils are proud of their school and take part in their learning with enthusiasm. Inspectors also described the children as polite, friendly and respectful.
It added that the school has a good system for monitoring pupils’ progress and using that information to improve learning, teaching and attainment.
Head Teacher Derek Retson said: “We are absolutely delighted with the HMIE report and thrilled that inspectors have recognised the fantastic work happening across our school. It’s wonderful to see our nurturing ethos, strong relationships and commitment to high-quality learning highlighted so clearly.
“Our pupils are exceptional. Every day they bring energy, curiosity and kindness to our school community, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. It is also good to see recognition of our dedicated staff and supportive families for everything they contribute. We’re excited to build on this very positive report and continue driving forward learning and achievement for every child to ensure they thrive and achieve their best.”

Staff are committed to providing high-quality learning and using data about children’s learning to improve their learning experiences.
