St Mirren have confirmed that Aberdeen have asked for permission to speak to manager Stephen Robinson about their vacant managerial position.
A club spokesperson said Aberdeen had triggered a clause in Robinson’s contract allowing them to approach the Saints boss. St Mirren have now granted permission for discussions to take place.
A spokesperson for the club said: “St Mirren Football Club can confirm that we have been approached by Aberdeen FC to speak to manager Stephen Robinson in relation to their managerial vacancy.
“Aberdeen have met a contractual clause in Stephen’s contract so the club has granted them permission to speak with him regarding the vacancy.
“We hope for a swift resolution to this matter and will keep supporters updated.”
Robinson has overseen one of the most successful periods in St Mirren’s recent history. During his time in Paisley, the club have secured three top-six finishes, returned to European football and lifted the Scottish League Cup earlier this season.
St Mirren currently sit 10th in the Scottish Premiership and have also reached the Scottish Cup semi-finals, where they will face Celtic at Hampden.
