Councillors have welcomed planned conservation work on the Robert Burns statue in Paisley’s Fountain Gardens.
The update was discussed at a recent Renfrewshire Council meeting, where members heard that a contract has now been awarded for the restoration of the historic monument.
Cllr Kenny MacLaren said: “This is good news for Burns enthusiasts and everyone who enjoys the excellent Robert Burns statue in Paisley’s Fountain Gardens.”
He added: “Quite rightly the Robert Burns statue in the Fountain Gardens is seen as one of the best statues of Scotland’s national poet and it is great news that conservation work will take place to bring it back to its full glory.”
The works are expected to take several weeks once they begin, reflecting the statue’s historical and cultural importance.
Councillors also heard that further improvements are planned within Fountain Gardens, with the Grand Fountain set to be cleaned and serviced following its winter shutdown. The water features are expected to be switched back on at the same time.
Cllr Mags MacLaren welcomed the wider investment, noting the effort that had previously gone into restoring the fountain.
The report is due to be formally approved by the Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board.
