A march promoting unity and opposing racism will take place in Paisley tomorrow.

The “Paisley Unity March” is being organised by Paisley for All, with people asked to gather at Barshaw Park at 11am on Saturday 18th April, near the Glasgow Road car park.

The march will set off at 12pm and travel into Paisley town centre, ending at County Square where a rally, speeches and live music are scheduled from around 12:45pm. The event is expected to finish at approximately 3pm.

Organisers say the event is aimed at bringing people together from across Renfrewshire to show support for unity and opposition to racism.

In a statement, they said: “Paisley has always been a place where ordinary people stood together to demand dignity, fairness and a better future – not just for some, but for all.

“Those values are under threat today. Forces that rely on racism, scapegoating and dividing us want to rewrite our history and poison our communities.

“We refuse to allow hatred to take root here. Paisley stands for unity, solidarity and togetherness, not division – and we are organising to make that clear.

“Together, we can show that hope is stronger than fear. Together, we can defend our communities. Together, we can build a future rooted in solidarity, equality, and justice.”

A number of performers are set to appear at the rally, including Pilgrims Society, Braes, The Martians, Shaun Moore, The Zips and Cabaret Against.

Several organisations are also supporting the march, including Amnesty International, National Union of Students Scotland, Paisley & District Trade Union Council, Poverty Alliance, Renfrewshire Youth Voice, Stand Up To Racism Scotland, Unite the Union, and Women Against the Far Right Scotland.

Organisers are encouraging members of the public to attend and take part, adding: “Please join with us on Saturday April 18th – help us build a united, anti-racist community for all of Paisley and Renfrewshire. Let’s celebrate that Paisley does mean for all.”
