Renfrewshire’s Provost Lorraine Cameron will raise funds and awareness for the St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation during her final year as Provost.
The foundation is the official charity of St Mirren Football Club. It uses football, fitness and sport to help people take part in physical and social activities.
Provost Cameron said: “Supporting local causes is hugely important to me and I want to help make as much of an impact as possible during my final year as Provost.
“The St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation supports a huge number of local people, delivering everything from mental health interventions and community meals through to breakfast clubs and holiday camps.
“Through its connection with the football club, the charity is breaking the stigma around accessing support, as people feel more comfortable in the safe space the club provides.
“I’m looking forward to helping the foundation wherever I can this year. There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to get involved so please follow our social media channels for the latest updates.”
Gayle Brannigan, Chief Executive of St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation, said: “We are delighted for the Foundation to be announced as Provost’s chosen charity of the year.
“Having this support raises awareness on the programmes we deliver which will help more people in our communities get the support they need, also increasing funding opportunities to much loved projects like Fit & Fed which gives a helping hand to families struggling with our ever-increasing cost of living crisis.”
