Polling stations have opened across Renfrewshire and the rest of Scotland as voters head to the polls in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.
Voting is taking place in the three Renfrewshire constituencies of Paisley, Renfrewshire North and Cardonald, and Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley, as well as for the West Scotland regional list.
Polling stations opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm tonight.
Across Renfrewshire, there are 68 polling places and 190 polling stations, with around 500 polling staff working throughout the day.
The electorate across the three constituencies totals more than 188,000 voters, while more than 33,000 postal votes were issued ahead of polling day.
Anyone who has not yet returned their postal vote can still hand it in at a polling station within the relevant constituency.
Voters experiencing an emergency which prevents them from attending in person can apply for an emergency proxy vote until 5pm by contacting the Electoral Registration Office on 0300 300 0150.
Alan Russell, Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Renfrewshire Council, said: “I would encourage everyone to have their say today as polls open for the Scottish Parliament election.
“Your poll letter will outline where your polling station is and the council website has further information should you have any questions, with our election team available to support you today too.
“Polling stations will remain open until 10pm tonight and the votes will then be verified and counted at Braehead Arena tomorrow, with the election results due on Friday afternoon.”
In a change from the last Scottish Parliament election, Cardonald is now part of the new Renfrewshire North and Cardonald constituency following a review by Boundaries Scotland.
Various polling district and numbering changes have also been introduced, with details included on voters’ poll cards.
Once polling stations close tonight, ballot boxes will be transported to Braehead Arena where counting will begin on Friday morning.
