Work has begun on a new £1 million active play facility at Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

The new attraction will feature a TAG Active arena where players compete to score points by using wristband sensors to activate lights positioned throughout a climbing maze. The activity is designed to test speed, agility and strategy.

The arena will include tunnels, crawl spaces, a cargo climb maze, giant inflatable balls and climbing frames as part of a colourful play environment aimed at encouraging fitness and active play.

A separate baby and toddler area will provide interactive toys, slides, ramps, balance boxes, giant building cubes, bashbags and other play equipment. There will also be a free-play section featuring chutes, slides and climbing frames.

The facility will include a dedicated sensory area for children with additional support needs. The space will feature interactive panels, beanbags and mirrors within a colourful imagination zone.

Parents and carers will be able to watch children from a large seating area overlooking the play zones while making use of the on-site cafe. A new party room will also be available for birthdays and special events.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said: “It’s fantastic to see work now underway on this exciting new facility in Paisley.

“We know how important it is to for families to have access to local, high-quality play opportunities for their children. We also want to make sure we’re creating spaces that are inclusive and welcoming to all our families, which is why the dedicated sensory area was included.

“The play area at the Lagoon will be a great resource in the heart of the town which in addition to providing a great play experience for children will also offer parents and carers a place to meet and socialise.

“I look forward to seeing the completed play area and can’t wait for families from Renfrewshire and beyond to start using this fantastic new facility.”

Construction is being carried out by Alliance Leisure Services Limited, with the project expected to be completed by late summer 2026.

The development comes alongside a further £2 million investment approved by councillors for upgrades to OneRen sports and leisure venues as part of Renfrewshire Council’s 2026/27 budget.
