Paisley Museum Reimagined has won the Heritage Project category at the RICS Awards Scotland 2026.

The £68.7 million project was announced as the winner during the RICS Awards Scotland ceremony, held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow on Thursday, 25th June.

Paisley Museum Reimagined is the transformation of Paisley’s Grade A and B listed museum buildings. The project was delivered for Renfrewshire Council to create a fully accessible cultural destination.

Kier Scotland and its supply chain partners restored the historic buildings and modernised 4,500 square metres of heritage space. The work reunited the museum with the observatory and transit house, improved the surrounding public space and added a new red glass entrance extension. The extension includes lift access, a café, shop, events and gallery space, and a Changing Places facility.

The judges said: “A landmark project for Paisley, securing the future and significantly enhancing the experience density of the museum, and delivering an enhanced facility for the people of Paisley, delivered with a high degree of professionalism.”

The RICS Awards recognise achievements in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure across the UK. Regional winners will now go on to represent their area at the UK Grand Final on Thursday, 22nd October.

Paisley Museum Reimagined was one of six Scottish category winners. The overall Project of the Year award went to John O’Groats Mill.

Kerry Gibbs MRICS, UK National Awards Chair, said: “These Awards shine a spotlight on the most inspiring people, projects and innovations shaping the built and natural environment, creating a powerful platform that elevates the profile of chartered surveying and celebrates its impact on communities nationwide.

“This year we received over 300 entries across all twelve of the RICS regions.

“The Awards are hugely important. They help demonstrate the positive impact that surveyors, as well as buildings, have on individuals and communities. They promote the role of surveying in making those projects a reality.”
