Scotland supporter Craig Ferguson will start this year’s Paisley 10k as organisers make a final appeal for people to enter before registrations close on Friday.
Ferguson, from Paisley, came to international attention this summer after walking more than 3,100 miles across the United States in a kilt to raise £1 million for SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health).
He completed the challenge, the equivalent of more than 120 marathons, in just over 100 days while Scotland competed in the World Cup.
Now he will return home to start one of Renfrewshire’s biggest annual sporting events when the Paisley 10k and Fun Run take place on Sunday 16th August.
Former Scotland basketball player and OneRen board member Kieron Achara MBE will start the Fun Run, while Commonwealth karate champion Amy Connell will present prizes to competitors.
Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said: “Craig’s been an absolute inspiration this summer – and we’re sure that he’ll inspire our entrants onto their best as he starts this year’s 10K. It’s an absolute pleasure to celebrate Craig’s success by having him start the 10K.
“Craig’s incredible fundraising challenge has shown the power of setting a goal and working tirelessly to achieve it. So, whether you’re chasing a personal best, taking part with friends and family, or raising money for a cause close to your heart, I’d encourage anyone thinking of entering to sign up before entries close.
“With the Commonwealth Games taking place just along the road in Glasgow, taking part in our special day of running is an ideal way to embrace Scotland’s summer of sport.”
The Paisley 10k and Fun Run attract runners, walkers and families each year, with many entrants raising money for charity.
Entry numbers are limited to 2,500 for the 10k and 1,500 for the 5K Fun Run.
Kieron Achara said: “The Fun Run is all about getting active and having fun, whether you’re walking, jogging or running. There’s always an incredible atmosphere in Paisley on race day and I’m looking forward to helping send everyone on their way. If you’ve been thinking about taking part, now’s the time to get your entry in.”
Entries close at 11.59pm on Friday 31st July.
