The Advocacy Project will take over the Renfrewshire Advocacy Service from You First Advocacy on 1st October 2026, following an appointment by Renfrewshire Council.
The free, confidential service helps people affected by decisions about health and social care to have their voices heard. It is independent of social work, the NHS and other agencies.
It supports adults aged 16 and over who are subject to mental health, adult protection or incapacity legislation. It also supports children under 16 who are subject to the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003.
Adults receiving health or social care can also use the service if they do not have family members or unpaid carers available to support them.
Thomas Paterson, Service Manager – Contracts and Commissioning at Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Independent Advocacy is an essential service in ensuring people have their voices heard and rights respected in decisions affecting their lives. Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership look forward to working closely with The Advocacy Project over the coming years.”
