Seven voluntary exit packages agreed by Renfrewshire Council during 2025/26 had a combined reported cost of £1.103million.
The figure was disclosed in the authority’s annual accounts, which were considered by the Audit, Risk and Scrutiny Board on Monday 21st September 2026.
The largest single package was valued at £353,000.
One other package was valued at £239,000. Two packages costing between £150,001 and £200,000 had a combined value of £325,000.
One package worth £83,000 fell within the £80,001 to £100,000 band. Two packages valued at between £40,001 and £60,000 had a combined cost of £103,000.
There were no compulsory redundancies during the year.
The reported costs do not consist entirely of immediate cash payments.
They include redundancy payments, pension strain, compensatory lump sums and the estimated present value of compensatory added years over the recipients’ lifetimes.
The council said it only agrees exit packages when they support wider workforce planning and service delivery.
It also requires the savings made when an employee leaves to recover the cost of the package within what it considers an acceptable period.
The council agreed 22 voluntary exit packages with a combined value of £1.491million in 2024/25.
Six of those were worth up to £20,000. The largest packages that year were three valued between £150,001 and £200,000, with a combined cost of £497,000.
The 2025/26 accounts also show that 1,356 council employees received remuneration of more than £50,000, excluding pension contributions. The figure was 997 in 2024/25.
The increase was mainly among teachers, rising from 604 to 964. The number of non-teaching employees above the threshold fell from 393 to 392.
One employee was included in the 2025/26 remuneration figures only because they left and received a termination payment.
The Audit, Risk and Scrutiny Board agreed to recommend the annual accounts to the full council for approval.
