Violent crime in Renfrewshire rose by 7% between April and August, with police reporting an increase in violence in private homes.

A total of 950 violent crimes were recorded between 1st April and 31st August 2026, according to a report for Renfrewshire Council’s Police and Fire and Rescue Scrutiny Sub-Committee.

Councillors will consider the report on Tuesday, 27th October 2026.

Most of the recorded crimes were minor assaults, with 869 offences. These included 93 assaults against emergency workers.

Around 70% of minor assaults did not result in injury to victims.

Serious violence increased by approximately 16%, with 81 crimes recorded.

The report also describes a 28% rise in domestic violence compared with the same period last year. Violence in private dwellings increased by 14%.

Police say their response includes identifying and disrupting people involved in violent offending, targeted enforcement and increased scrutiny of repeat and high-risk offenders.

Work with partner agencies is continuing to tackle domestic abuse and violence in residential settings.

The report also records 209 weapons offences, a fall of approximately 15%. Of these, 108 involved the use of weapons in other criminal activity. The remaining offences related to carrying weapons.

The figures are provisional management information from Police Scotland’s internal systems, extracted on 16th September 2026. They are not official statistics.
