A suspect is to face a trial accused of assaulting and robbing a 68-year-old man.

Daniel McCrudden is said to have carried out the crime in a stairwell and a flat at a property in Renfrew on 24th April this year.

It is claimed the 25-year-old forced entry before punching and hitting the pensioner on the head, knocking him unconscious.

Prosecutors further allege McCrudden made demands for money, bank cards and their PIN numbers.

He is also accused of taking hold of the man’s mobile phone and telling him to accompany him to his car.

McCrudden is said to have robbed the pensioner of cash and left him severely hurt.

He is separately charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

This features claims he took the man into a bathroom at the flat, tried to wash blood from his face and told him not to contact the police.

McCrudden is also accused of a breach of the peace.

Lawyers for McCrudden pled not guilty on his behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

A trial was set and is due to start in January 2028 in Paisley.
