Parking and loading restrictions linked to a proposed walking and cycling project in Elderslie are to go before councillors.

The traffic order would support Elderslie for Everyone, which aims to close a gap in National Cycle Route 7 along Main Road.

Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board will consider the proposals on Wednesday, 4th November 2026.

The proposals cover Main Road, Canal Street and Glenpatrick Road. They include waiting and loading restrictions, limited-stay parking, bus stops, disabled parking, a pedestrian crossing and restrictions associated with a segregated cycle track.

No objections were received during consultation on the order.

One local business asked whether unrestricted parking would remain available in Castle Road. Council officers confirmed that it would.

The report says traffic orders without objections would not normally require a board decision, but approval is being sought because of the importance of this order.

Officers recommend introducing the restrictions as proposed.

A separate service update says detailed design of the project is due to be completed by March 2027.

The project would then be the subject of an application for construction funding.

Approval of the traffic order would therefore be a further step in developing the project, rather than confirmation that construction funding has been secured.

If the order is approved, officers will arrange the road markings and signs needed to make the restrictions enforceable.
