Renfrew is set to shine this Christmas with the launch of a brand-new town-wide festive display competition.

Renfrew Community Council is inviting residents across the town to take part in its Christmas Display Competition, aimed at celebrating local creativity and the strong sense of community spirit in the area.

From gardens and balconies to tenement windows and front doors, any festive display visible from the street can be entered. The Community Council says the competition is designed to be inclusive, giving every part of Renfrew the chance to take part.

A £100 prize will be awarded to the winning display, but organisers say the main focus is on bringing neighbours together and brightening up the town during the winter months.

Residents can take part in three quick steps:

  • Upload a photo of your display using this link: https://forms.gle/2LiGXG4JRguEkCL57
  • A small judging group from the Community Council will shortlist four finalists.
  • If needed, the group may do a short no-contact evening drive-by to double-check displays that are hard to judge from photos alone.
  • The full Community Council will then take part in an online vote to choose the winner.

Entries close on 11th December 2025 and only households who live in the Renfrew Community Council Area can enter.

Jan Bunch of Renfrew Community Council said the competition was about celebrating what already happens across the town every Christmas.

She said: “Renfrew has a real tradition of people going the extra mile at Christmas – you see it every year walking around the town. This competition is just a way of celebrating that creativity and giving the whole town a lift. Some of the houses and flats are already looking brilliant, and we can’t wait to see even more.

“It doesn’t need to be huge or expensive – it just needs to bring a smile. This is about community, not competition.”

The Community Council hopes the initiative will encourage residents to explore their neighbourhoods, share photos and connect with one another, particularly at a time of year when social connection can matter most.

People without internet access are still encouraged to take part by asking a friend, neighbour or family member to upload a photo on their behalf.

Residents are being encouraged to get involved in whatever way they can, whether by entering the competition, supporting neighbours, or simply taking a walk around Renfrew to enjoy the festive displays once they are up.
