West College Scotland has celebrated the success of its latest CECA Scotland Academy graduates following a ceremony held at the college’s Paisley campus on 13th January.

The event marked the third CECA Scotland Academy graduation hosted by West College Scotland, with twelve students receiving their certificates on the day. Graduates were also given the opportunity to interview for local roles within the civil engineering sector.

The outcomes have already been significant, with ten of the twelve graduates securing employment with CECA Scotland employers since completing the programme, highlighting both the commitment of the students and the strength of the partnership behind the academy.

Derek Smillie, Curriculum Quality Leader in Construction and Building Services at West College Scotland, said the process had been rewarding to watch, as students developed their knowledge, skills and confidence throughout the programme.

He said: “The support of CECA employers and CECA Academy staff, as well as our staff at West and hard work by our students, together make this happen. Long may this partnership continue.”

The college said it is proud of the achievements of all graduates and wished them well as they move into employment, adding that staff are looking forward to following their future careers.

The CECA Scotland Academy is a training-to-work pathway designed to create qualified Civil Engineering Operatives. The programme supports one of Scotland’s most important industries, which underpins vital infrastructure across roads, rail, water and power.

Civil engineering employs more than 30,000 people across Scotland, with £8.5 billion worth of infrastructure projects planned over the next decade. The academy was created to provide a clear and accessible route into the sector and to support long-term careers.

The programme places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and diversity, with no formal entry requirements, and applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds across the country.
