A bid to secure a long-term lease of a vacant community facility in Ferguslie Park has been rejected by Renfrewshire Council.

The application, which sought a long-term community asset transfer for the building, unused in recent years, was refused at the Community Asset Transfer Sub-committee meeting held on Wednesday, 21st January 2026.

Councillors agreed that the concerns raised during earlier discussions had not been sufficiently addressed, despite further information being submitted by the applicant.

Speaking at the meeting, Michelle Campbell, convener of the sub-committee, said the additional material had failed to reassure members.

“For me, it feels like there’s a flavour of the same conversation that we were having before, the same concerns that we had before and unfortunately the feedback that we’ve got has further enhanced those concerns, rather than alleviating those concerns,” she said.

The refusal means the future of the facility remains undecided, with the building continuing to sit vacant while alternative options are considered.
