Renowned writer Irvine Welsh will take part in a special tribute event in Paisley celebrating the life and legacy of designer Pam Hogg.
The event will be held at Paisley Town Hall on Friday 27th March 2026 as part of the Paisley Arts Festival.
Welsh, who was a close friend of Hogg for decades, said her influence stretched far beyond fashion and into wider creative culture.
“She was an ubiquitous person, would just show up everywhere. She’d talk to everyone in a room and made you feel like the important person and there’s few people that can do that – it’s a real gift.”
Hogg, who died in London on 26th November 2025, was known internationally for her bold and unconventional designs, creating work for artists including Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue.
Welsh said she remained committed to her artistic vision throughout her career and resisted pressure to follow mainstream trends.
“She didn’t make stuff for the mass market, she didn’t make high street fashion. She made things that would be spectacular and shocking and didn’t like the watering down of that.”
The tribute event will see Welsh lead a discussion on Hogg’s life and work, reflecting on her journey from Paisley to global recognition.
He added: “It’s a real privilege to be part of something where it’s her home turf, it’s a great thing.”
Joining him on the panel will be model and actor Eunice Olumide and fashion historian Mairi MacKenzie.
Born in Paisley, Hogg grew up in Renfrew and Glasgow before building a career that spanned fashion, music and art. A future display at Paisley Museum will celebrate her life and work when it reopens.
The Paisley Arts Festival runs from Friday 27th March until Sunday 29th March 2026 and is organised by OneRen with support from Creative Scotland.
