The Scottish Greens have published their manifesto ahead of the Scottish Parliament election on Thursday 7th May 2026, setting out plans on climate, transport, housing, childcare, health and tax.
The document, titled Scottish Greens Manifesto 2026, is built around the slogan “Let’s Demand Better” and makes the case for higher taxes on wealth and pollution to fund public services and climate policies.
Among the headline pledges are free bus travel for everyone in Scotland, funded childcare from six months old, at least 15,700 new social homes a year until 2031, and a target of 40,000 new green energy jobs by the end of the next Parliament.
On health, the party says it would increase GP investment, recruit more doctors and nurses, aim for one GP per 1,000 patients and end dental treatment charges. It also says it would invest more in palliative care and mental health services
The manifesto puts climate and energy at the centre of the party’s plans. The Scottish Greens say they would oppose new oil and gas extraction, invest £600 million in renewable energy, support community-owned energy projects and remain opposed to new nuclear generation in Scotland.
On transport, the party says it would expand free bus travel to all residents, introduce a £2 bus fare cap during the transition, abolish first class on ScotRail and bring more bus services under local control.
Housing is another major part of the manifesto, with the Greens pledging to build at least 15,700 social homes a year, strengthen rent controls and take action on empty homes, second homes and derelict land.
The party also says it would replace Council Tax with a residential property tax, introduce new taxes and surcharges on wealth and environmentally harmful activity, and continue to push for Scottish independence and a return to the European Union.
The Scottish Greens launched the manifesto on Tuesday 14th April 2026.
The Scottish Parliament election takes place on Thursday 7th May, with parties continuing to publish their manifestos in the run-up to the vote.
