A new solo cabaret show exploring trauma, recovery and relationships is coming to Paisley Arts Centre later this month.

Walking on Eggshells by Scottish artist Emma Lynne Harley will be performed at the venue on Friday 22nd May as part of a short Scottish tour.

The production combines autobiographical theatre, cabaret, stand-up comedy, scientific research and pop music. It is based on Harley’s experiences as a queer and neurodivergent artist.

The 60-minute show explores recovery from Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) and asks what it means to “move on” after an abusive relationship.

Harley said: “Walking on Eggshells is incredibly silly by design.

“The very first cabaret seed which became this show, was from the perspective of a crazy chick (the Charlotte Church kind) with a whole host of songs about being madly, irrationally in love, and all sorts of toxic relationships – they’re very easy to find!

“It just so happened that I had my own personal experience of PTSD following an emotionally abusive relationship that went on to become a narrative structure.”

The show is a co-production between Siren Theatre Company and Scissor Kick.

Producer Stephanie Katie Hunter said: “Emma’s ability to turn trauma into a digestible, hilarious, and fun experience through Walking on Eggshells is one of the many reasons why this show is a must-see.”

The performance takes place at Paisley Arts Centre, New Street, on Friday 22nd May. Tickets are priced at £17.
