Two Johnstone men are preparing to take on a sponsored cycling challenge to raise money for a special day out for people supported by Quarriers Renfrewshire Supported Living Initiative.

Christopher Graham and Grant Henry will cycle from Johnstone to Lochwinnoch and back on Thursday 4th June in a bid to raise funds for the service, which supports 26 local people to live independently.

The pair came up with the idea after combining their love of cycling with a desire to give something back to the service. Money raised will help fund a group outing, with a visit to Five Sisters Zoo in West Lothian currently top of the wish list. The fundraising will also help cover the cost of hiring an accessible bus so wheelchair users can take part in the trip.

Both men have been training regularly around Johnstone and along local cycle routes in preparation for the challenge. Christopher also takes part in a local walking group and has been visiting businesses in the town seeking sponsorship, while Grant uses his bike as his main form of transport.

So far, they have raised around £400 through cash donations and are aiming to double that amount to ensure everyone supported by the service can enjoy the planned day out.

Their fundraising efforts will continue after the cycle challenge, with the wider service planning a bucket collection walk in Largs and Millport in July.

Quarriers Renfrewshire Supported Living Initiative supports adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and acquired brain injuries, helping them live independently and stay connected to their local communities.
