Renfrew Burgh Band has celebrated its 115th anniversary with a day of rehearsals, workshops and a packed concert in Renfrew Town Hall.
The band, which was formed in 1911, welcomed guest principals from Foden’s Band, Mark Wilkinson, and Adams Artist Gary Curtin, for a day of activities before they appeared as guest soloists at the evening concert.
The anniversary concert marked months of preparation by the band and its leadership team.
Musical director Mark Good said: “Our summer concert has become an annual tradition in recent years, but this year was extra special for our band family as we marked the band’s 115th anniversary by welcoming Foden’s Band stars, Mark Wilkinson and Gary Curtin.
“Mark and Gary were brilliant with the band, inspiring us with their playing, and sharing their advice and experience with band members with honesty and good humour.
“The audience in Renfrew Town Hall was fantastic, and the band really revelled in the special occasion, performing with great discipline and musicality.”
Chairperson Shona Jones thanked those who helped make the event a success.
She said: “It was a pleasure to welcome friends and supporters old and new as we celebrated 115 years of Renfrew Burgh Band.
“We’re proud of our heritage and grateful to all those whose dedication has ensured that brass band music continues to thrive in Renfrew.
“Thank you to everyone who supported us at the weekend, including the local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes. We look forward to many more years of representing Renfrew with pride, at home and further afield.”
The summer concert followed a busy few months for the band, including performances at Renfrew Gala Day and Glasgow Airport, as well as fundraising activities to support its future concert and contest programme.
The band will now take a short break before rehearsals resume later in July ahead of the next contesting season.
