Two women have been taken to hospital after a car crashed from a bridge onto the M8 near Glasgow Airport on Thursday evening.

The one-car crash was reported at around 8.40pm on Thursday, 16th July 2026. Police closed the M8 westbound at Junction 27, White Cart Viaduct, near Paisley, while emergency services dealt with the incident. The motorway reopened before midnight.

Images from the scene showed a badly damaged car surrounded by debris in the middle of the motorway. Police officers and members of the public were gathered around the vehicle as they worked to help those inside.

Renfrew Road, which crosses the motorway, was also closed between the Abbotsinch Retail Park roundabout and the Arkleston Road roundabout because of damage to the bridge barriers linked to the crash. The road has also since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The M8 westbound at Junction 27, White Cart Viaduct in Paisley, has reopened following a one-car crash reported around 8.40pm on Thursday, 16 July, 2026.
