Parking on part of the pavement at Townhead Terrace in Paisley could be permitted under proposals going before councillors.
Council officers say marked spaces on the east side would control how far vehicles extend onto the pavement, allow pedestrians to pass and maintain access for emergency vehicles.
They say the arrangement would also double daytime parking capacity.
Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board will consider the proposals on Wednesday, 4th November 2026.
The proposal forms part of a wider traffic order covering waiting, loading and parking restrictions across Renfrewshire.
Two objections were received to the Townhead Terrace proposal, concerning the use of the pavement for parking.
Officers say residents requested the arrangement in response to demand for parking from the museum.
The council proposes to use its exemption powers to allow pavement parking, with road markings controlling the space occupied by vehicles.
The proposed parking arrangements include spaces for Zone 2 permit holders or pay-and-display users from Monday to Saturday, between 8am and 6.15pm. The maximum stay would be four hours, with no return within one hour.
The order also includes waiting and loading restrictions on Townhead Terrace.
Officers recommend that councillors consider the objections themselves rather than appoint an independent reporter.
The board can decide whether the wider order should proceed in full, in part or not at all.
