Police have reported an increase in violence in Renfrewshire homes, with repeat victims and repeat offenders highlighted as a concern.

A total of 950 violent crimes were recorded between 1st April and 31st August 2026, up 7% on the same period last year.

The written report records a 14% rise in violence in private dwellings and a 28% increase in domestic violence.

The figures were considered by Renfrewshire Council’s Police and Fire and Rescue Scrutiny Sub-Committee on Tuesday, 27th October 2026.

Most violent crimes were classed as minor assaults, with 869 offences recorded. These included 93 assaults against emergency workers.

Around 70% of minor assaults did not result in injury. Serious violence increased by approximately 16%, to 81 crimes.

At the meeting, police said violence was increasingly happening in private residential settings and highlighted the complex nature of domestic abuse involving repeat victims and offenders.

Officers explained that police and partner agencies were assessing risks, targeting prolific offenders and providing support to vulnerable victims.

Councillors were told that Renfrewshire’s local area commander would attend multi-agency meetings dealing with domestic abuse to strengthen the assessment and management of offenders.

Police said a coordinated response was crucial to supporting victims and helping them move away from risk.

The meeting also heard plans for school sessions in November to raise awareness of violence against women and girls and help young people build respectful relationships.

The crime figures are provisional Police Scotland management information, rather than official statistics.
