A Lochwinnoch man has been awarded an MBE from the Queen for his services to the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.
John Delaney has raised more than £500,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust by climbing Kilimanjaro, taking part in the Midsummer Sun Marathon in Norway, cycling the length of Ireland and the also the Boston Marathon, which involves rowing 31 miles from Lincoln to Boston.
John’s son Andrew died when he was 16-years-old after he was diagnosed with incurable cancer when doctors found a tumour in his spinal cord when he was aged only 14.
Andrew was left paralysed from the chest down when a biopsy operation went wrong.
After Andrew died, John began fundraising and because of his tireless hard work, there are now two Teenage Cancer Trust units in Scotland.
