Plans have been submitted for a new wet dock at Inchinnan Cruising Club in Renfrew after difficulties with the club’s existing system for launching and recovering boats.

The club, which was founded in 1932, is seeking planning permission from Renfrewshire Council to construct the facility at its premises on Inchinnan Road, where the Black Cart and White Cart rivers meet.

The proposed dock would measure approximately 15 metres long, six metres wide and six metres deep.

Planning documents explain that members have traditionally launched and recovered their boats from the Black Cart using a winched cradle on a slipway.

However, following recent operational incidents and difficulties renewing insurance for the existing system, the club has been considering alternative arrangements.

The new wet dock would be constructed on the eastern side of the site, allowing the club to continue using its mobile boat lift to lower boats into the water and recover them.

The development would involve installing steel sheet piling to form the dock walls, excavating the ground and constructing a concrete floor.

The plans would also provide a new hardstanding surface at ground level.

Documents submitted by marine engineering consultants Beckett Rankine state that the proposed dock would be built entirely within the club’s existing land boundary.

Renfrewshire Council was contacted before the application was submitted.

In its initial response, the council said: “In principle, there would be no issue with the works proposed given they would help support a well established facility.”

However, the council also highlighted the site’s environmental importance and its proximity to protected areas.

An ecological assessment has been submitted as part of the application, examining potential impacts on wildlife and recommending measures to protect the surrounding environment.

The planning application was received on 24th August 2026 and validated on 2nd October 2026.

Renfrewshire Council has yet to make a decision.
