Paisley Councillor Mags MacLaren says she has been inundated with complaints regarding the new Council street lighting.
Mags MacLaren, the SNP councillor for Paisley North West said “Despite assurances from Labour, we are still getting more complaints about the poor street lighting in Paisley.”
“There have been numerous complaints regarding street lighting in Paisley and it seems that these complaints have increased since the lights have been replaced with new LED lights which are costing the council £11 million to install.
“A recent meeting of Renfrewshire Council resulted in the Labour administration agreeing to an SNP motion to investigate the problems with street lights all across Renfrewshire.
“However, whilst waiting for this to happen, there have been more complaints.

Local community councillor, Kenneth McMaster, contacted Cllr MacLaren to highlight the poor street lighting in Newton Street, Paisley.
Mr McMaster has complained that the lighting is inadequate in this street, especially as it has elderly residents as well as a primary school (West Primary) in the area.
“While I welcome Labour accepting the SNP motion at a recent council meeting, to investigate the problems of the street lighting, we still need work carried out just now.
“Newton Street contains sheltered housing for elderly people as well as a primary school so it is especially important that there is adequate lighting to make sure everyone feels safe when they go out onto the street.”
Kenneth McMaster, community councillor with Paisley West and Central Community Council, said: “The lighting in Newton Street is not good enough, it leaves the street too dark for anyone wanting to walk along it.
“I contacted my local councillor to ask them to get involved and help get better lighting for this area of Paisley.”
