A local councillor has hit out at drivers who have been parking on a Paisley street as selfish, blocking the way for pedestrians and those who have mobility aids.
Kenny MacLaren, who is an SNP councillor for Paisley Northwest told Renfrewshire News he has been contacted by a number of constituents about an increasing problem of parked cars blocking the pavements in Marchfield Avenue, Paisley.
He believes that a number of people are parking here to avoid paying for parking charges at Glasgow Airport as a number of the cars have been parked in the same spot for days. At a recent surgery, Cllr MacLaren was told by a constituent she has to struggle onto the road with her walking aid to get past cars parked on the pavement. Another constituent has highlighted that it is impossible for her to get her wheelchair past cars parked on the pavement.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren said: “Inconsiderate drivers are parking on pavements making it difficult for people with wheelchairs and walking aids to use the pavement.”
“There is no need for these cars to park on the pavement, it is just the action of inconsiderate selfish drivers who don’t give a damn about pedestrians and those who have mobility aids.
“I’ve contacted both the police and community safety team to see what action can be taken to either fine drivers or move their cars. Local residents have claimed that some of the cars are parked for days on end, sometimes for a week or two, and they have seen drivers coming out of cars with suitcases and heading for the airport.
“It seems these drivers are too cheap to use proper parking facilities and don’t care who they inconvenience as long as they get to park without paying for it.”
