A violent rapist who attacked a woman has been jailed for six years.

Robert Martin struck at a flat in Glasgow’s Shawlands on 23rd February 2020.

The crime included the 31 year-old, of Paisley biting the woman, grabbing her by the wrists, pinning her down as well as pulling off some of her clothes.

Martin was today sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having earlier been convicted of rape.

Judge Douglas Brown told him he had used his “physical strength” to overpower the woman, who had given “no reason” to think she was interested in him.

He added: “You seemed oblivious to her feelings and the impact the conduct would have on her.

“The woman’s distress recalling the incident at trial was obvious.

“She feels this has changed her life forever and that she is no longer the person she once was.”

Martin was also put on the sex offenders list.

He blew a kiss towards a group of relatives as he was taken handcuffed to the cells.

His lawyer Callum Hiller earlier told the hearing that Martin continues to protest his innocence.

The defence advocate added: “He has a supportive family and friends including a partner. All of those people are here in court.”

  1. This pathetic excuse of a man has always been known to be a sex pest in gyms across the town of Paisley. To make matters worse his family are now defending him with a lengthy Facebook post that’s basically blaming the victim. It’s astonishing that a family can be in denial to the extent they are an enabler.

    1. you canny say things like that without providing any evidence. was there even any evidence against this guy ?
