A man who repeatedly attacked his partner will be released from jail having been behind bars for two years.

Karl Gibson, 37, turned on Natalie Clark at properties in Edinburgh and Paisley, between March 2021 and April 2022.

Court papers state that Gibson engaged in a course of abusive behaviour towards Miss Clark.

The charge says Gibson repeatedly acted in an aggressive manner, shouted, and uttered abusive and demeaning remarks about her.

Gibson also threatened to damage her property.

He also repeatedly threw a controller and other items at Miss Clark, slapped her on the face several times then punched her head and body to her injury.

Gibson went on to repeatedly shout and swear at Miss Clark, uttered threats, forcibly removed a watch from her wrist, punched her on the head and slapped her.

He also bit her on the hand and threw items at her.

The charge further states Gibson seized Miss Clark by the body, tore her upper clothing and pushed her against a wall to her injury.

Gibson also demanded entry to a room which Miss Clark was in.

He went on to slap her and threw items at her on another occasion.

Previously, Gibson was found guilty by the jury at the High Court in Edinburgh as well as a breach of bail by contacting Miss Clark.

Gibson appeared by video link today at the High Court in Glasgow to be sentenced.

Lynsey Morgan, defending, told the court her client had offered a plea to the charge before trial which the Crown refused.

The advocate added: “He accepts the behaviour which he was guilty of.”

The hearing was told that the dad-of-four had spent two years on remand in custody while awaiting trial and sentence.

Judge Lady Drummond said: “This was a catalogue of physical assaults and abuse over a period of almost a year while subject to numerous bail orders.

“These are serious offences and you accept full responsibility for them and I’m advised from your background report that you regret your behaviour.

“I’m also advised by the victim impact statement that your behaviour has had a profound effect of her and understandably so.

“I take [into] account your period on remand which has been for almost two years which equated to a four-year sentence.

“The offence you have been convicted warrants that length of custody so I am not going to impose a further period since you have served a lengthy sentence already.”

Gibson was put under supervision for 18 months.

An indefinite non-harassment order was also granted which prohibits Gibson’s contact with Miss Clark.
