The Scottish national Party (SNP) has confirmed Michelle Campbell as its candidate for the new Renfrewshire North and Cardonald constituency at next year’s Scottish Parliament election.

Campbell, a Renfrewshire councillor since 2017 and a nurse with twenty years experience in the NHS, was the unopposed choice of local SNP members when nominations closed earlier this month. She currently serves as Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Board and sits on the SNP’s National Executive Committee.

The announcement follows last month’s news that current MSP Natalie Don-Innes will be standing down at the next election.

Boundary changes ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election mean the new Renfrewshire North and Cardonald constituency will lose parts of the former Renfrewshire North & West seat — including Kilmacolm, Bridge of Weir, Houston, Crosslee, and Gallowhill, and will expand eastwards to incorporate Glasgow’s Cardonald ward.

Speaking after her confirmation as candidate, Michelle Campbell said: “I want to thank every SNP member who has shown their support and belief in me, and who encouraged me to step forward to be our next MSP.

“The real work begins now, on the doorsteps, and across our communities. I’m determined to work tirelessly for a fairer, greener, stronger and independent future. Together, let’s deliver real change”

“From transformational policies like the Scottish Child Payment and Baby Box, to free university tuition, the protection of the bus pass, the nationalisation of ScotRail, enhanced Winter Heating Payments, record high childcare provision, free school meals for P1–P5, free prescriptions and eye tests, free period products, small business rate cuts, and record investment in active travel – the SNP has delivered for Scotland.

“We need a strong team of SNP MSPs at Holyrood to continue that record. We cannot allow the opposition parties to reverse Scotland’s progress, nor can we follow the catastrophic direction being set by Sir Keir Starmer down south.

“I will stand up for every person in our communities and defend the policies that have made Scotland better. Over the next 12 months, I’ll be out in our communities speaking to the people who matter most, the voters, to earn their support.”
