Concerns have been raised about speeding vehicles near St Benedict’s High School in Linwood, particularly at busy times such as drop-off, lunchtime and after school.

Residents say pupils are regularly crossing the road at these times, but there are no pedestrian crossings close to the school entrance.

Across Renfrewshire, schools have a mix of road safety measures in place. Some are within enforceable 20mph zones marked with a red circle, others use flashing signs that indicate “20mph when lights flash”, and some only have advisory “20’s Plenty” zones, which are not legally enforceable.

In response to concerns, local community officers from Johnstone carried out speed checks outside the school on Friday, 5th September. Seven drivers were stopped and warned about their speed, with officers reminding them of the 20mph limit on Bridge of Weir Road near the school.

Police Scotland confirmed that officers will continue to monitor the area and encourage drivers to slow down to keep pupils safe.
