As winter approaches, new specialist frailty services have been introduced across every NHS board in Scotland — including NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde — to help improve care for older patients and reduce pressure on hospitals.
The new teams are designed to assess and support older and vulnerable people from the moment they arrive at hospital, helping them receive the right care more quickly and safely.
The Scottish Government says the initiative, backed by £200 million, will help ensure faster treatment, shorter hospital stays and safer discharges for older patients across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
Tom Arthur MSP for Renfrewshire South welcomed the move, saying that specialist frailty teams will make a real difference during the busy winter period.
He said: “Across the country and in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, specialist frailty teams are helping older patients get the right care, in the right place, at the right time. That means shorter hospital stays, quicker recovery, and more people able to return home safely.”
The initiative forms part of wider work to prepare NHS services for the winter months and to support older people in local communities.
