Drivers in Renfrewshire are being warned of possible disruption as farmers plan to target the M8 in a protest over rising fuel and energy costs.

The demonstration is expected to take place from 12pm on Wednesday 15th April 2026 through to Friday 17th April, with protesters planning to block sections of the M8 between junctions 19 and 20 — a key route used by commuters travelling between Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

The stretch of motorway is one of the main links for drivers heading to and from Paisley, Renfrew, Johnstone and Erskine, meaning delays could impact commuters, public transport and delivery traffic across the area

Organisers have called on HGV drivers and members of the public to join the action, which is expected to involve slow-moving vehicles and possible roadblocks.

Police Scotland said it is aware of the planned activity and will have resources in place.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of potential planned protest activity due to take place in various sections of the motorways in Scotland over the next few days, Wednesday, April 15 – Friday, April 17, 2026.

“We will have appropriate resources in place to ensure the safety of those in attendance and mitigate disruption to the wider community.”
