Plans have been lodged to expand a sports facility in Paisley with three new padel tennis courts.
The application would see changes made at Powerleague on Blackhall Street, including the reconfiguration of existing football pitches and the installation of new courts with canopy cover, lighting and enclosure boards.
The proposal (26/0338/PP) is currently under consultation after being validated by Renfrewshire Council on Thursday 30 April, with a decision yet to be made.
If approved, the development would convert part of an existing seven-a-side football pitch into three padel courts, alongside the creation of a new five-a-side pitch elsewhere on the site.
Planning documents state the facility has been operating since the 1990s and already includes multiple football pitches, padel courts and a pavilion building with parking for more than 100 vehicles.
Developers say the expansion is driven by strong demand, with the Paisley site reportedly seeing high usage levels since padel was introduced in 2025. Supporting documents claim courts are frequently fully booked at peak times, particularly evenings and weekends.
The plans also include a canopy structure designed to allow year-round play, along with new floodlighting and enclosed courts.
Tennis Scotland has backed the proposals, saying additional covered courts would help increase participation and make the sport more accessible, particularly during poor weather.
According to the application, the changes would not alter the overall use of the site as a sports facility, with developers arguing that demand for smaller football pitches has declined while interest in padel continues to grow.
The site is around 100 metres from the nearest homes and separated by woodland, with the application stating there would be no unacceptable impact on neighbouring properties.
The plans remain open for public comments before moving to the next stage of assessment.
