Counting is now underway at Braehead Arena following Thursday’s Scottish Parliament election across Renfrewshire and the West Scotland region.
Election staff began counting ballot papers at 9am on Friday after ballot boxes were transported overnight from polling stations across the area.
The count will cover the three Renfrewshire constituencies of Paisley, Renfrewshire North and Cardonald, and Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley, along with local totals for the West Scotland regional list vote.
Unlike Westminster and council elections, there was no overnight count following the close of polls on Thursday night.
Traditionally, Scottish Parliament election counts started immediately after polls closed, but this changed at the 2021 election due to Covid-19 restrictions and has remained in place since.
Around 400 count staff are taking part in the process at Braehead Arena, with candidates, agents and media also attending throughout the day.
The first stage of the count is verification, where officials check ballot paper totals from each polling station before votes for individual candidates and parties are counted.
Across Renfrewshire, voting took place on Thursday at 68 polling places and 190 polling stations.
More than 188,000 people were registered to vote across the three Renfrewshire constituencies, while more than 33,000 postal votes were issued ahead of polling day.
Estimated declaration times are around 3pm for Paisley, Renfrewshire North and Cardonald, and Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley, with the West Scotland regional result expected around 4pm.
All timings remain subject to change depending on the speed of the count and any recount requests.
