Michelle Campbell said her priority as the newly-elected MSP for Renfrewshire North and Cardonald will be creating a “local and accessible” office for constituents.
The SNP politician was elected in the newly-created constituency following Friday’s count at Braehead Arena.
Speaking after her victory, Campbell said: “Most importantly, something that I did speak to people about on the door was about being there for them.
“That means also having an office that’s accessible, local, and that they know they can come to us and regardless of the issue, we’ll do our best to help them.”
Campbell said she would now begin work setting up her constituency team and office.
She said: “I will obviously look to setting up staff and an office, probably within one of the towns in the constituency.
“Obviously this has just happened, so there aren’t any initial plans. However, I want them to know that I’m there for them.”
The newly-elected MSP also said she believed the result across Scotland showed support for independence.
She said: “Delivering for Scottish independence, because ultimately I believe that’s what the people of Scotland have chosen today.”
Campbell added that she was looking forward to joining the SNP group at Holyrood.
She said: “I think the experience that I’ve got in life, 20 years in our NHS, I’ve had nine years as a councillor, and I think the combination of those experiences plus my life experience in general terms makes me a good MSP to get working within that team and working collaboratively for independence.”
