BoyleSports has submitted plans to open a new betting shop in one of Paisley town centre’s prime shopping locations.
The bookmaker is seeking permission from Renfrewshire Council to convert the former café and restaurant premises at Unit B, 11 Gilmour Street.
If approved, it would become the fourth bookmaker beside each other on this stretch of Gilmour Street, joining Paddy Power, William Hill and Ladbrokes.
The unit was previously occupied by Be Capri, which closed in November 2025. Planning documents state the premises had been used as a café since at least 1964, including previously operating as Café Caprice and Grahams Café.
BoyleSports plans to invest around £380,000 fitting out the new shop if permission is granted.
The company says the development would create three full-time and three part-time jobs, including a part-time cleaner. It estimates a further 26 temporary construction jobs would be created or supported during a six-to-eight-week fit-out.
Proposed opening hours are from 8am until 10pm, seven days a week.
Plans include alterations to the shopfront, a new entrance door, two air conditioning units and two satellite dishes.
A separate application has also been submitted for illuminated BoyleSports signage, including a fascia sign and a hanging sign.
The building is not listed but sits within the Paisley Town Centre Conservation Area.
Documents submitted with the plans state the premises have been actively marketed since Be Capri closed, with the property agent reporting minimal interest and no interest from retail operators.
The planning statement also notes that betting shops currently account for around 1.02% of units within Paisley town centre. It says the proposed shop would increase this to around 1.28%.
It also points to the recent closures of Coral on Gauze Street and William Hill on Causeyside Street.
The plans are currently being considered by Renfrewshire Council, with comments open until 4th September 2026.
