Braehead Shopping Centre has been sold to Frasers Group in a major deal that marks a significant change for one of Renfrewshire’s biggest retail destinations.

SGS UK Retail, which owned Braehead on Kings Inch Road in Renfrew, was restructured and refinanced last year and says the centre has undergone a major transformation under its ownership, strengthening its position in the Scottish retail market.

Claire Barber, CEO of SGS UK Retail, said the sale was planned from the outset.

She said: “The sale of Braehead was always part of our strategic plan and through active management, we have delivered substantial value enhancement and successfully stabilised the asset, attracting new brands and increasing its relevance and appeal to customers. We have created a strong platform from which Frasers Group can continue to drive growth, leveraging its retail expertise to further unlock Braehead’s potential as one of the leading retail destinations in Scotland.

“In light of strong leasing performance and the significant progress made in discussions with brands, we continue to see significant value creation opportunities in the Group’s remaining three assets.”

Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray said the move strengthens the company’s growing footprint across the UK.

He said: “This acquisition is an important step in delivering our property ambitions and accelerating the Elevation Strategy. It cements the Group’s position as a leading operator and champion of physical retail destinations while unlocking greater opportunities to serve communities with the best brands, environments and experiences possible.”

With more than 15 million visitors a year, Braehead is one of the busiest shopping centres in Scotland. The centre has out-performed the national retail market over the past year, with footfall up 3% and spending up 4% to the end of June. This compares to the Scottish Retail Consortium–KPMG 12-month average of just 0.1% sales growth across Scotland.

Braehead has attracted strong interest from retailers throughout 2025, with 16 brands renewing or extending their leases. The centre is also preparing to host the UK’s first SuperPark, an indoor leisure and recreation attraction scheduled to open early next year.

The deal is part of SGS UK Retail’s long-term strategy and follows activity across its wider portfolio, which also includes Lakeside Shopping Centre, Nottingham’s Victoria Centre and Harlequin Watford.

Frasers Group was advised by James Keany of CBRE, while SGS UK Retail was represented by Nick Hart of JLL.
