Renfrewshire Council have awarded a contract to deliver the Ferguslie Park Greenline – Belltrees project as the next stage of the area’s regeneration moves forward.
The £600,000 investment is part of The Making of Ferguslie, a long-term, community-led plan created with residents to reimagine the area and deliver lasting change.
The work will restore 2.69 hectares of derelict land and introduce new features including a multi-functional greenspace, a natural play trail, an event space and new landscape areas. Two new shared pedestrian and cycle routes will improve links to nearby schools and services, alongside native planting to boost biodiversity and drainage improvements to help manage surface water during heavy rain.
Construction will be carried out by MacKenzie Construction Limited and is expected to begin in January 2026, with completion scheduled for Summer 2026.
Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: “This is another fantastic step forward for the regeneration of Ferguslie Park as projects continue to be delivered that make a real difference to the local community and the people who live there.
“This project will bring back into use a significant piece of land for residents and visitors to enjoy and it follows on the back of the new Neighbourhood Centre activity space being created which is already extremely well used by local people.
“We’ll continue to work hard to deliver exciting, beneficial projects for Ferguslie as we continue its transformation and ensure it remains a place that people are proud to live.”
The Making of Ferguslie sets out a shared vision for the area focused on transforming unused land, improving greenspaces and supporting local community initiatives. The programme is already delivering visible results, with several key projects completed or underway.
The Ferguslie Green Line will form a new green corridor linking key parts of the area, building on the activity and recreation space completed earlier this year as the first phase of the project.
It follows community-driven improvements including the transformation of Craigielea House into the Sculpture House, an artist studio and social space, and the creation of new growing spaces on underused land. The wider regeneration also supports the delivery of 101 new council homes at the former St Fergus Primary School.
The project is being funded through the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme and Place Based Investment Programme, along with support from the UK Government’s Strategic Prosperity Fund.
