Victim Support Scotland (VSS) is urging people in Renfrewshire who have been impacted by crime to get in touch for emotional and practical support over the festive period.
The independent charity works in communities across Scotland, offering free and confidential help to anyone affected by crime. Support is available remotely through its helpline and webchat service.
People who have been financially impacted by crime can also access help through the charity’s Emergency Assistance Fund (EAF). The fund can cover essential items and services such as food, utilities, clothing, travel to a place of safety, or security equipment. It is aimed at people who have no alternative funding options available.
Applications to the Emergency Assistance Fund will continue to be processed quickly over the festive period, with staff and volunteers available to support people through the application process if needed.
Debbie Adams, Director of Development and External Affairs at Victim Support Scotland, said:
“Crime doesn’t stop over the festive period and neither does our team at Victim Support Scotland. We know that this time of year can feel isolating for people impacted by crime, and that certain crime types, like domestic abuse, often increase over the holidays.
“It’s crucial that people know that VSS staff and volunteers are ready to provide support over the public holidays. A compassionate and knowledgeable conversation can go a long way to easing anxiety – and we can offer that and more.
“Help is available in local communities across Scotland and we can support you after any type of crime. Even if you’ve not reported it to the Police, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us for free, compassionate and confidential support.”
